Time Line of the Rocket Building Process
Week # 1 (October 17th - 23rd)
  • learning about the rocket
  • reading over the rocket handbook

Week # 2 (October 24th - 30th)
  • decision on the size of the body tube that will be used
  • decision on the shape of the fins
  • choosing materials that will be light weight
  • decision on the shape of the parachute and what it will be made of

Week # 3 (October 31st - November 6th)
  • making of the fins, body tube, engine holder, parachute, and the cone.
  • painting of the fins and the body tube
  • assembly of the rocket

Week # 4 (November 7th - 13th)
  • First launch (November 10th, during period 2)
  • modifications made to the fin and the parachute (after the first launch)
  • Second launch (November 10th, noon hour)
Modifications
  • The first modification that was made to our rocket was the wire that held in the engine. When we were almost done our rocket, the piece of paper clip that held in the engine broke off. In order to replace the paperclip, we needed to take off one of our foam rings. After we took of the closest foam ring to the end of the body tube, we were able to replace the paperclip with a piece of wire.
  • The other modifications that were made to our rocket were done after the first launch. Because we hadn't put enough wadding in our rocket for the first lauch, our parachute was affected. We had to tear apart the spot on the parachute where it had been burnt together, as well as fix a few of the strings that had broken off. The other modification that was made to our rocket after the first launch was on one of our fins. When the rocket landed, one fin broke off our body tube. All we did to fix the fin was glue it back on with the hot glue gun.
